For older vacation goers, nothing could be finer than the usual lovely bus liner for travelling around from Chiloé to Santiago. Chilean buses beat renting a car or traveling by air. No cars to park. No turnoffs to find. More time to read, play Go-Fish, sleep and look in the scenery. With so much to find out and do, travel-by-bus is almost an end in itself. It is a sensible way to see Chiloé and the Lake District of Chile.
You can start from any point in Chile, but Puerto Montt serves being an air, land and sea link. There are dozens of vacation options; trips to Puerto Varas, Chiloé, and Santiago to name a few. Take a 15-seater from Puerto Montt to be able to Puerto Varas and study both the huge volcanoes that grace your horizon. A bus may be your very best option to return from Southeast Chile and catch a flight out through Santiago. It can be a long ride, but then all over again, so is flying back.
