Baby's room rhymes and lullabies like Wheels on the bus go round and round and “Baby Bumble Bee” undoubtedly are a traditional part of childhood. But now some parents are searching for kid-friendly tunes with a far more substantive, social justice–oriented information.
That’s why mom along with musician Acacia Sears ditched the woman day job and started off writing progressive music made for tots. Going by her kid-friendly musical persona, Master of science. Cacie, Sears started a Kickstarter campaign this week to aid fund an entire cd of what she telephone calls “feminist children’s songs. ”
Sears was inspired to commence her project when she noticed a lot of the subtle reinforcements of typical gender roles from the lyrics of the schoolyard favorite “The Wheels for the Bus. ” As the mommies are generally told to shush your children, the daddies say “Keep the child quiet, ” often combined with stern faces. Dissatisfied that has a message that overtly states that maternal figures comfort kids while dads discipline these individuals, Sears started writing her own music with support from relatives and buddies who told her, “the mommies for the bus say smash the actual patriarchy. ”
And her tunes do this. Sears started uploading tunes with acoustic guitar and easy-to-understand lyrics to YouTube a year ago, including “Princesses Are for everybody, ” which explains that both little ones can play at dress-up or within the dirt.
Sears has the capacity to tackle complex issues and boils them because of make them not only understandable but age proper. Take, for example, “Only Of course Means Yes, ” which teaches kids about agreement. Instead of talking concerning sexual assault, the song focuses on hugs, while reminding kids that “only your system belongs to you. ”

“My aim is to help you people educate children about being good to one another and themselves, embracing selection, and supporting each different with understanding and empathy, ” Sears explains on her Kickstarter page.
